Words

I do not always see myself in a good light, like most people, I have my days when I wonder who that person is looking back at me in the mirror and I groan and moan instead of seeing the beauty of my own grandmother in that face. I was feeling a wee bit sorry for myself as I hobbled around and made my way to the computer wherein lies my connection to the outer world. Several friends keep me apprised of their interests in life and share so many funny jokes. Recently the political cartoonist have been busy telling it like it is and we have to laugh out loud even though the truth hurts. Our world is such a mess. I am smiling because I have friends that are staunch Republicans, and on the other hand , some who are staunch Democrats ---- and then there are 'us' who try to be Independent and make good choices. I don't think any of us have gotten it right. So the words flow back and forth and the ones that matter so much are the ones that make your sprit glow. Today words came that made my spirits rise and I am thankful for them. It made me think of words and how we use them. It is so easy to allow our mouths to utter obcenitites. Yesterday, The Chicken Gang came to play Chicken Foot which is a deviation of the Mexican Train Game. Picture seven senior ladies around a table playing with dominos, well it isn't as serious as a bridge game, and it does create a world of laughter that echos out through the open windows, opened this day with a cross breeze to cool the ladies down who suffer from those moments of stifling heat on a cold day. The ladies have to put up a nickel when they forget and shout out the forbidden word when someone blocks their final shot at the winning jar. We only made ten cents yesterday.
I hope you are using words today, soft words to those you love; kind words to those in need; a bit of a tongue lash for those who need it; and if you are lucky, you will hear the words you want to hear. So my words for you today are "I LOVE YOU."

My Nemisis

Maxine, isn't she wonderful, full of 'mouth' and ready like a whip cutting through the air, sarcasm at its best and hilarious to boot. Well here it is the Fourth of July, 2009, a foggy day for us on the coast and cool. The tourists have taken over the town and love it. Pat tells me that the Port is crowded, the salmon are only eight miles out, fishing boats are going out three at a time and everyone is in good spirits . . . me too . . . but . . . I am sitting, just like our gal Maxine, watching television and walking through the ads. I have to tell you I am getting in a lot of exercise, the ads flash on one right after the other, almost lose the story line. Basically I'm sulking as I have what is called a Bakers Cyst and had a steroid shot in the knee to calm it down. It has calmed down some but the right leg has started up in sympathy, then the back readjusts in a painful way and that song comes to mind about the hip bone being connected to the thigh bone . . . and on and on, as my body tells me to slow down, relax and get over it. I'm working on it, but no fire works for me tonight. I'm going to watch the big display from Washington, D. C.
I hope you are having a Fourth of July blast with cookouts, music, a bit of the bubbly and some good friends to help you celebrate the birthday of our country. So, Happy Birthday America.

MOMMA BIRD VISITS

Sunday afternoon, Erin forwarded the pictures of the birds she took . . . aren't they spectacular.
There was one more of her flying away but was not in the batch. I am not a computer expert so had a tough time figuring out how to transfer them from the e mail to a place in the computer where I could file them as the 'my pictures' did not show. If it isn't in an a.b.c. mode then I'm lost but, as you can see, I did find a way. Now if I don't lose them I'll think I am so much smarter than I am.
I wonder if we will ever see the little ones. Time will tell.

Update on the birds

These are the latest pictures of the birds that I took. In a short while though, you will be able to see some unbeliveable pictures that my granddaughter Erin took with her camera. It has the big lens and she has a lot of patience as she held her camera waiting for the two birds to fly in and out. She really got some awesome pictures. I can hardly wait to show you.
We were sitting on the porch and this little bird sat on the railing and I talked to it for minutes while Erin snapped. As for the ones in the house, she is sitting at the opening, hard to see but she is there. When Erin sends me the pictures I will put them on for all to see; great pictures. These will have to do in the meantime as it show the birds are still visiting the bird house and bringing food in every day. There are two of them. They do not seem to mind that I am out there sitting in my chair just quietly watching.

AND THE WIND BLEW

The moon rose, the wind subsided finally, but, not before it knocked over the little bird house and I found it upside down in a large empty flower pot this morning. My heart did a little skipping as I thought about the nest inside and the tiny eggs, or already hatched birds, and wonder if they survived. I did see the mother bird flying in with something in her beak since I put the birdhouse back in the same place, this time with a rock placed in a better spot, hopefully so it will not blow over again. I am afraid to move it anywhere else for fear the nest will be abandoned. I am hoping the hatchlings are okay and soon I will see them fly away. I can only hope they are meant to live and enjoy our world. Isn't it just like life? You get things lined up and think all is just as it should be when something comes along and a sudden change, good wind, sometimes ill wind blows in and disrupts our world, but we survive and go on; hopefully the little hatchlings will. I'll keep you posted.

Waiting

This is one of Pat's favorite places to visit . . . it feels like a good waiting spot and I wouldn't mind being right there by the lake, which by the way, reminded me of one I loved to visit when I lived in Nevada. I wrote a poem about 'Reflections'

Whenever there are lakes and streams/with trees growing along all sides/the sun comes out/and shadows fall/turning the leaves and trees upside down./
The calmness is a mirror/showing a magic picture/in the stream/ a twin mirage of color/lifeless like a dream./
Reflections make you smile/as the ducks take to the pond/making tiny rivulets/as they glide along.
I think in this particular lake it would be fish, a mosquito or two, and in the trees an eagle, or maybe a brown bear hiding behind a tree . . . guess we will have to use our imaginations and wait and see.

I'm waiting for the phone to ring to tell me if company is coming in today. I'm waiting for the laundry to be finished and the butter to soften to make some cookies. I've been waiting for the sunshine for weeks and here it is shining which mean the winds are up and if I am lucky, son John will invite me out to lunch. He surprised me with a weekend visit. Waiting, waiting, waiting is not always a bad thing . . . think of the anticipation . . . a wonderful afternoon spent with those you love. I hope you are waiting for someone special to come, or call, and the waiting becomes worthwhile.
